NZRM Progress Report 2024-11-15: Volume 10, Volume 12, Webmaps

Apologies for the long delay since the last update. October was not an auspicious month for map work for numerous reasons, and work had to be paused for practically the whole month whilst a number of issues were worked through. These have now been overcome, and production has resumed.

For the rest of 2024 there will be some work on the Tuatapere Branch in Volume 12, and an article is being worked on for Dunedin-Mosgiel in Volume 10 with a view to submitting it for publication by the end of the year. As per previous reports, the work is also going on to get ready to update the webmaps for the first stage of what is expected to be a multistage process of capturing updates from each volume in turn, due to the work that is needed to bring each source project and the webmaps build project up to date with the new formats.

Here are some captures of Hillside Workshops in 1947, 1986 and 2023.

Hillside Workshops 1947 Aerial
Hillside Workshops 1986 Aerial
Hillside Workshops 2023 Aerial. Site development was incomplete at the time this aerial was captured.
Hillside Workshops composite map. The map is incomplete as buildings are not shown, but the track layout is more or less complete. Note the track is less spread out, being concentrated mainly into the northern side of the site. A new traverser has been installed to connect into fitting bays in the main workshops building to the left, itself a replacement.
